Over the last 200 years, we have lost almost 500 species of native wildlife, in England alone.

CARBON CREDITS

The Woodland Carbon Code (WCC) is the standard for woodland creation projects in the UK which generate verifiable Woodland Carbon Units. These are measurable amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) removed from the atmosphere by the growing trees.

A Woodland Carbon Unit (WCU) is a tonne of CO2 which has been sequestered in a WCC-certified woodland. It has been independently verified and guaranteed that it can be used to report against carbon emissions.

As standard, Wanderlands will register sites with the Forestry Commission, validating to the standard of the Woodland Carbon Code that it can generate Woodland Carbon Units (WCUs). The WCUs will be applied, along with any Biodiversity Habitat Units, to offset the residual carbon footprint of a Wanderlands client.

BIODIVERSITY CREDITS

Net gain is an approach to development, and/or land management, that leave the natural environment in a measurably better state than beforehand. We use habitat features as a ‘proxy’ measure which translate into Biodiversity Habitat Units (BHU’s), as set out by Defra’s Biodiversity Metric. *
Wanderlands sites are working examples, having already generated both WCU’s and BCU’s to help offset carbon and biodiversity footprints.

Related services include:

  • Pre-application submission for the site
  • Rigorous site environmental survey with ecological assessment, soil sampling, land use study, etc.
  • Biodiversity net gain onsite/offsite sustainability strategy and natural solutions
  • Marketing and communications expertise to curate your biodiversity and carbon offsetting brand narrative

WANDERLANDS ENVIRONMENT BANK

Our native wildlife, commonly referred to as biodiversity, is in drastic decline.

The importance of biodiversity offsetting and biodiversity net gain is growing rapidly across the UK. The upcoming UK Environmental Bill will constitute a legal mandate for developments to evidence a minimum 10% biodiversity net gain, with long-term habitat security for at least 35 years.

In response to social and legal actions, we established within Wanderlands, the Wanderlands Environment Bank service. This aspect of our business specialises in delivering practical, effective carbon credit offset and biodiversity net gain solutions, enabling property developers, LPA’s and landowners to achieve positive nature conservation.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
IN PARTNERSHIP WITH OUR ENVIRONMENT

Using the approved Defra metric, we measure biodiversity impacts and identify compensation needs from development. Combined with an assessment of all sectoral stakeholders, we then deliver proven outcomes for the restoration and preservation of nature.

Quantifying the impact of development (habitat loss) and creating habitat net gains through appropriate compensation schemes enables us to support our clients with ‘sustainable development’, as defined by the National Planning Policy Framework.

Wanderlands Environment Bank offer the ongoing commitment of quality protection for planning authorities, landowners, developers, and conservationists. When it comes to our carbon offset and BNG approaches, our team ensure maximum biodiversity benefit, wildlife value and community benefit.
